John F. Deitrick Jr., 86, of Brockton, died peacefully Oct. 5, 2016. Born and raised in Randolph, son of the late John and Maybelle (Shanks) Deitrick, he was a 1948 graduate of Randolph High School. He was discharged from the the U.S. Naval Reserve. John was retired after 50 years as a life insurance agent with Paul Revere Life Insurance. He was a former member of First Baptist Church in Randolph and a member and deacon of Christ Congregational Church in Brockton. Very active in the Masonic Fraternity, he was a Past Master of Baalis Sanford Lodge AF&AM, member of St. George Lodge AF&AM, and Paul Revere Lodge AF&AM, Past Monarch of Shedad Grotto M.O.V.P.E.R., Past High Priest of Satucket/Pilgrim Royal Arch Chapter, Past Illustrious Master of Brockton/Abington Council of Royal and Select Master Masons and Past Junior Warden of Bay State Commandry#38, all of Brockton. He was the first President of the 29th Masonic Forum and twice served as a District Deputy Grand Marshal for the 29th, now the 17th Masonic district. He was a member of the Southeastern Past Master’s Association, President of the Brockton Masonic Building Association, member of Aleppo Shrine Temple and was initiated in the Order of High Priest, and was appointed Grand Senior Deacon of the Grand Lodge of Masons in this state. For his dedication John was awarded the Joseph Warren Medal, Benjamin Hurd Medal and Blake Bailey Medal. He was a past member of the advisory board of Brockton Assembly International Order of Rainbow for Girls and past member of Brockton Chapter#20 Order of Eastern Star and a longtime member of Easton Grange. The joy of his life was doing things with and for his family and for them to carry on and fulfill their dreams: John was the husband of the late Jean (Bailey) Deitrick; beloved father of Deborah Kavanaugh of CA, Vanessa (Paul) Frizzell, Cassandra (John) Mountcastle and Adrian (Richard) DeChristopher, all of Brockton; loving grandfather of Jacqueline (Charles “Kelly”) Prim, Thomas (Kalyn) Kavanaugh, Eric and Tara Frizzell, Corey and Dylan DeChristopher; great-grandfather of Paisley Kavanaugh, Jacob Prim and Gavin Frizzell; brother of the late Dorothy Deitrick and Maybelle Cederholm; brother-in-law of Robert (Ruth) Bailey of Stoughton; and an uncle of many. All are welcome to calling hours Tuesday 3-8 p.m. in Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St., Brockton with a Masonic Service at 7 p.m., his funeral in Waitt Funeral Home Wednesday at 10 a.m. and burial at Central Cemetery, Randolph. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
