Walter A. Sims, 98, of Brockton, passed away Jan. 28, 2017 at home under the care of his daughter Nancy after a long illness. Husband of the late Aldona A. (Barkowsky) Sims, he was the beloved father of Ann A. Baez and her husband Dr. Atilio Baez of Scituate, William W. Sims and his wife Ellen of East Bridgewater, Nancy A. Sims of Brockton and the late Richard R. Sims; loving grandfather of Christine Cogill (David), William Sims Jr. (Kasey Minot), Kathryn Manasyan (Kevin); great-grandfather of Chloe, Kyla, Isabelle and William; brother of Bennie Sims of Fairhaven, Helen Fleming of Cambridge and the late John and Stanley Skistimas and Mary Romans; and an uncle of many. Native of Cambridge, Walter graduated from Rindge Tech High School there and served in the U.S. Army (Air Force Base Unit) during World War II. He was a machinist for Boston Naval Shipyard for 32 years until retiring. Walter enjoyed fishing, taking daily walks, telling stories and woodworking.
