I was looking through my 1969-1970 Mary E. Curley Jr. High yearbook. I did a search for John Haldoupis and this obituary came up. It was my first year teaching and John took me under his wing. He was a big boy even then. I vividly remember at Christmas time his bringing me in a bottle of Bacardi rum.He was in my homeroom .

I will miss him refferring to me as the Princess, I will miss the stories he would tell the audience about me, like when I was in Omaha I wrote the song " I lie when I drink". I will miss how he would refer to me in a song, like the song "after all these years". There is a line in that song "there are days when I could kill her" he would tip his head raise his eyebrow and look at me. I will miss how he made me cry from a song he sang. I will miss his golden voice and the man who knew 3000 songs.
and refer to a friend that he knows the other 3000 songs. I will miss how he would challenge me and play songs I didn't know or if we had 3 gigs in a row never repeat a song. I will miss how he would say the bass player has more requests than the audience and then sing it for me. I will miss his rock solid tempo. I will miss him telling me " You know you're my favorite bass player" but some gigs I need someone who sings more, because he didn't want me to get upset. Which brings me to another line he would say. If we were listening to a female singer and he liked her, he would look at me and ask "does she play bass?" and chuckle. All in all, I will miss him and cherish the memories and his true friendship to me. My deepest sympathy to his family for their loss. Elaine Ellis

Dear Haldoupis family, John was a 30 + year friend of mine in music and spirit. I've played in a few bands with him. One of the nicest guys I've ever met. Even though I haven't seen him in a number of years we still kept our friendship going in online correspondence. Facebook, regular emails and even a few times on the phone,. I will miss him very much knowing that he's not with us anymore. I send out my deepest condolences to you knowing that God has brought his son home.
