George E. Smith, 81, of 1 Nichols Ave., Avon, passed away on Jan. 18, 2017 after a long illness.Born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island, graduate of Providence College, resided in Hartford and East Hartford, CT, Sharon, MA, Brattleboro, VT and in Avon since 1969. He was a data processor for many businesses including Honeywell, Titleist in Acushnet, and the City of Brockton. Predeceased by his beloved wife Dorothy A. Smith of 58 years, he is survived by 5 children: George “Steve” Smith of Virginia, David Smith of New York, Brenda Whitenett of Natick, Daniel Smith of Marion, and Kevin Smith of Ashland; 15 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren. A resident Avon for 47 years, he enjoyed being with his family. All are welcome to gather Tuesday at 9 a.m. for a service at 10 a.m. in Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St., Brockton.
