Walter Stanton McConnell III passed away peacefully on November 10, 2021, after a brief illness. Born in Barnsville, Ohio on March 24, 1931 to Talitha Walker McConnell Gibson and Walter S. McConnell, Jr. Mr. McConnell was also the brother of the late Barbara McConnell Collier.
Walter is survived by his wife of twenty-four years Cheryl Aldrich McConnell, daughters Debra Lyn McConnell of Arcadia, CA., Doreen McConnell Riley and her husband Brian of Bridgewater, MA.
Walter was also a loving grandfather to P'lar Miller Garcia and her husband Nicholas, Chelsea Miller, Garrett Riley, Evelyn Riley and great grand daughter Paisley Garcia and great grandson Nico Garcia. Walter was predeceased by his first wife Evelyn Medina McConnell. Walter also leaves many friends and extended family in Ohio.
Walter enlisted in the United States Air Force and served from December 1951 to December 1955. While in service to his country he was awarded the Korean Service Medal, The Distinguished Unit Citation, The National Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Walter also attended the U.S. Air Force Technical School where his interest in aviation was sparked.
After being honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1955, Walter went on to study Air Traffic Control in Loughton, Oklahoma. After graduating, Walter joined the Federal Aviation Administration as an Air Traffic Controller based at Logan International Airport, where he served an illustrious career in that capacity for over thirty years.
Family and friends are welcome to celebrate Walter's life at the Waitt Funeral Home 850 North Main Street, Brockton, MA. on November 19, 2021. Visiting hours will be held from 9:30am to 11:00am and a service at the funeral home from 11:00am to 12:00pm. Internment will be at the National Cemetery, Bourne, Cape Cod. MASKS ARE REQUIRED PLEASE INSIDE THE FUNERAL HOME, THANK YOU.
