Virginia A. (Lord) Jeppson, 93, of Brockton, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2025 at home under hospice care with family by her side. Born January 1, 1932, the daughter of Arnold and Evelyn Lord, she lived in various locations in Massachusetts before coming to Brockton in 1945.
She graduated from Brockton High School in 1945 and accumulated many night courses at Bridgewater State College.
She was a communicant of First Lutheran Church and for 5 years was the Director of Kindergarten Sunday School and Bible School for the 3 to 5 year old students.
She worked as an office clerk for Thompson Shoe Company then as a receptionist for the local radio station WBET. She then spent eight years as a paraprofessional at the Paine School where she assisted in the classroom and at times substituted as a teacher. After leaving the school, she spent 18 years with the Brockton Police Department as a clerk, secretary to the Detective Division and the last ten years she served as secretary to the Chief of Police, retiring from that position in 1991. She was very active in causes to better her neighborhood, was a co-founder of “Citizens for a Better Brockton receiving a “Special Service to the Community Award” as one of the 2008 Women of the Year for all her efforts on behalf of the community.
Her interests included sewing, quilting, gardening, bowling, clamming, and loved Duxbury Beach where she and her family owned a beach cottage for many years.
She is survived by her daughter Cynthia Whiting and her husband George, her grandson Jared Whiting, great-grandchildren Landon Whiting, Gage Whiting and Dahlia Whiting; also by a brother-in-law C. Edmund Jeppson, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, retired Brockton Firefighter Robert L. Jeppson Sr. and her son Robert L. Jeppson Jr.
All are welcome to memorial calling hours Tuesday June 10th from 5 to 7 p.m. at Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St. Brockton. Private family committal later at Melrose Cemetery in Brockton. In lieu of flowers, she and her family prefers that you perform a random act of kindness in her memory.
