Victor K. Lee, 81, of Brockton, passed away December 28, 2024. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, a son of the late William and Margaret (Chin) Lee, he moved to Everett, Massachusetts in 1950. Baseball was a prominent sport in his life and he played for Everett High School for one year. His family moved to Brockton in 1960 and he graduated from Brockton High School in 1962.
In his teens he worked for his family’s restaurant Cathay Manor and also gained more hospitality experience working at the Maui restaurant in Brockton. Victor earned a bachelor's degree from Salem State College where he played baseball for 3 years and was a member of Kappa Delta Phi fraternity, graduating in 1969. He later enrolled in the master’s degree program at Bridgewater State College. Victor served honorably in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War era both as a reservist and active duty. He was stationed as a yeoman aboard the destroyer U.S.S. Compton in San Diego.
His teaching career for Brockton Public Schools spanned 20 years: ten years at Franklin and Kennedy Elementary Schools and ten years for E.S.L. programs citywide. His other career was in hospitality in which he earned a degree in hotel-restaurant management from Newbury College in 1993. Among four establishments he was general manager for the iconic Weylu’s Palace on Route 1 in Saugus, 2 other Weylu locations, and Chinatown Restaurant in Stoughton for 18 years. He attended a semester from 1993-1994 at Johnson and Wales University after acceptance to a Master of Science in Hospitality Administration.
Victor was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. He attended baseball camp for 2 years at Red Sox Fantasy Park in Florida: in 2008 at age 64 he received a trophy for Comeback Player of the Week presented by Joe Castiglione the Red Sox announcer, and in 2009 Victor and his winning championship team were awarded rings. Victor’s greatest love was spending time with his family at birthday parties, weddings and special occasions, and including the family pets. He enjoyed driving his sporty Triumph Spitfire and Datsuns.
Victor was the stepfather of Peyton Lee, beloved brother of Velma Lee O’Brien (& her husband Robert) of Potomac, Maryland, Verna Moy (& her husband Peter) of Brockton, and the late Vernon K. Lee, Vivien Lee Bossa and Vincent Lee; the loving uncle of Kristina, Kristofer, Kalvin, Kiana, Samantha, Sydney, Spencer, Nicole and Natasia; great-uncle of Zachary, Alexander and Landon.
