Thomas Murphy Sr. Obituary

Tom Murphy, 91, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2026 after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Roslindale on August 25, 1934, Tom was the beloved husband of the late Corinne Giampaolo Murphy, with whom he shared 67 wonderful years of marriage. They made their home in Stoughton, where they resided since 1958.

Tom retired from the MBTA after many years of dedicated service. He not only loved driving, but also genuinely enjoyed talking with the passengers he met along the way. Known for his mechanical skills, Tom was a master at fixing things. It was not uncommon to find a friend’s car in his driveway on a Saturday afternoon, with Tom happily working under the hood. He was also an accomplished card player and could often be found at local clubs enjoying a game of poker or cribbage.

Tom often said, “I’m the luckiest guy in the world”, and those who knew him understood exactly why. Following retirement, some of his greatest joys came from spending time with Corinne caring for their grandchildren and attending their dance recitals, hockey, baseball, softball, and soccer games, as well as school events. He took immense pride in watching his family grow, celebrating weddings, welcoming great-grandchildren, and creating countless cherished memories that brought him endless smiles and happiness.

Tom leaves behind his loving children: Edmond P. and Kathleen Murphy of Brockton, along with their sons and grandchildren; Michelle and Jeffrey Perdigao of Stoughton, and their son and daughter; Thomas J. Murphy Jr. of Bridgewater and his daughter; Denise and Fredrick Pantano of Bridgewater and their sons, daughter, and grandchild; Robert J. and Angela Murphy of East Bridgewater and their sons, daughters, and grandchildren.

He also leaves many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.

As Frank Sinatra sang and Tom lived by, “I did it my way”.

Respectfully, his services are private. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Children’s Hospital in Boston or your favorite charity.
