Sr. M. Angela Gvazdauskas, C.J.C. Obituary

Sister M. Angela Gvazdauskas, CJC, a Poor Sister of Jesus Crucified and the Sorrowful Mother, died December 13, 2025.

Born and educated in Worcester, Helen Gvazdauskas was the daughter of the late Peter and Mary (Janusa) Gvazdauskas of Alytus, Lithuania. She was a member of Our Lady of Vilna Parish, Worcester. She entered religious life in Brockton and was called “Sister Mary Angela”.

She completed the LPN program at Brockton Vocational School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a minor in sociology from Kings College, Wilkes-Barre PA

Sr. Angela was a resourceful and willing worker and fulfilled many roles. She was a teacher of religion, a classroom teache, a CCD coordinator, a Sister Superior, a fund-raiser, a picnic planner and a retreat leader. Sr. Angela also worked in the nursing, social service and pastoral care departments. She was assigned to community missions at parishes in Massachusetts: St. Francis, Lawrence and St. Casimir, Brockton. Her work in Pennsylvania was at Holy Trinity, Wilkes-Barre, St. Francis, Wilkes-Barre, St. Michael, Scranton, St. Ann, Scranton, Annunciation, Frackville, Holy Family, Frackville, and St. Mary’s Villa, Elmhurst PA. She also taught at St. Casimir, Amsterdam NY and St. Christopher, Hartford CT.

From 1978 through 1980 she was coordinator of the annual Labor Day Picnic held on Our Lady of Sorrows Convent Grounds, Brockton. She was an active member in the Knights of Lithuania. As director of Junior K of L members she prepared them to participate in the annual Lithuanian Dance Festival. For ten summers she managed Camp Ausra held on convent grounds located in Elmhurst PA.

She was able to create handwork as gifts and as art. In her later years at Our Lady of Sorrows Convent she was on staff in the Pastoral Care Department at St. Joseph Manor, Brockton.

Sister Angela is survived by one brother James Gvazdauskas and many nieces and nephews. She was sister of the late Angela Novicki, Bertha Gvazdauskas,,Theresa Eisnor, Lillian Wake, William Gvazdauskas, Mary Persechino and Peter Gvazdauskas.

Visitation will be held on Thursday Dec. 18th from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Sorrows Convent Chapel, 261 Thatcher St., Brockton, funeral Mass to follow in OLS Convent Chapel at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow in the convent cemetery. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Poor Sisters of Jesus Crucified, Our Lady of Sorrows Convent, 261 Thatcher St., Brockton, MA 02302.
