Ruth Darwin Obituary

Ruth Darwin, 95, of Brockton, passed away on April 24, 2021. Born in Rose Hill, Mississippi on March 10, 1926 as Annie Ruth Lang, she was a daughter of the late Willie and Caroline (Sims) Lang.

Ruth graduated from Jasper County Agricultural High School and attended the University of Tennessee in Nashville. She first started her working career at RCA Electronics, soldering PC boards for computers. She then worked as a mailroom supervisor for Dymo Business Corp. and Christy’s Market. Ruth went on to become a case aide for the Shattuck Shelter Addiction Program for many years, retiring at 81 years old.

Ruth continued to devote her care to her family, as a widowed single parent loving and caring for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Ruth was the wife of the late William R. Darwin; cherished mother of Cathy Jackson and her caring husband Miles, Rev. Dr. Coralotta Darwin, William L. “Bill” Darwin, all of Brockton, and the late Henry Crosby Jr.; beloved grandmother of Chanelle Jackson (and Charlene Montrond), Michael Jackson, William Casey, Jason Casey, Swen Daniels, and Raquel Duncan; great-grandmother of Nia Alves, Chaiann Wilson, Keysaun Daniels, Tayana Daniels, Elijah Daniels, Havana Cruz, Cameron Casey, Sariah Casey, and Christian Casey. She was the last surviving sibling of 12 brothers and sisters and leaves to mourn a host of relatives and friends.

After moving from the South to Brockton, MA, she joined Messiah Baptist Church and was a member of the Senior Choir and Gospel Choir. Ruth moved onto Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, continuing with servanthood in the Gospel Choir. Faithful and dedicated, she served and participated in any area where it was needed. Ruth loved everyone, and she loved God. Ruth always said, “walk what you talk”.

Ruth was one of the founding pillars of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. The church building would not be there today if Ruth had not contributed donations for the first six months of mortgage. Ruth sat in the pew every Sunday sharp as a tack. She loved looking good and especially loved wearing hats. Ruth loved gospel music and singing in the choirs.

Ruth was tenacious, loving, fierce, strong, fearless. A mother bear, a lion, she would not hesitate to go find her kids or family, no matter where they were. Ruth loved her family and she cared for them all her life. She celebrated her 95th birthday on March 10, 2021.

Her extended family notes that she was a moral compass, a “tell it like it is” and “don’t beat around the bush” kind of person. Ruth would give the shirt off her back without hesitation.

Ruth, well my dear, a job well done. Rest peacefully.
