Ruth E. (Moynihan) Bump, 94, of Brockton, longtime resident of Whitman, passed away peacefully at Bay Pointe Rehab Center. She was the daughter of the late Alexander Jaudaitis and Bertha (Johnson)(Jaudaitis) Moynihan and adopted daughter of Arthur Moynihan and grew up in the Montello section of Brockton. She graduated from Brockton High School in 1945. As an only child, she was close to her cousins, the Johnson family, in the Lithuanian Village in Brockton. Ruth worked at Knapp Brothers Shoe after attending Chandler Secretarial School in Boston. After her marriage to Carroll E. Bump, she raised her family in Whitman and was an active parent at St. Bridget School and Cardinal Spellman High School. She helped Carroll operate Bump Funeral Home and Regal Redemption Center, both in Whitman, and retired at the age of 80.
Ruth was known for her great sense of style, even while sorting bottles and cans, her sense of fun, and for keeping a picture-perfect home and yard. She enjoyed senior league bowling, played many winning hands of poker, and loved dressing in costume for Halloween and parties. She resided at Emmanuel House, now Connemara, where she became known as “First Lady” for her stylish attire and outgoing personality, until she entered Bay Pointe, just before the start of the pandemic.
Ruth was the wife of the late Carroll E. Bump; beloved mother of Suzanne Bump of North Easton, Carroll Bump Jr. and his wife Michelle of Palm City, Florida, Kathleen Arnold and Patricia Bump of Brockton; loving grandmother of Barry Drew Jr. of Brockton.
Visiting hours at the Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St. Brockton, are Sunday from 1-5 pm. A funeral service will be conducted there on Monday at 10 am, followed by her burial at St. James Cemetery in Whitman.
