Russell I. Gillpatrick, 95, a lifelong resident of Brockton, passed away peacefully at home on Jan. 20, 2021. Son of the late Lura and Archer Gillpatrick, Russ graduated from Brockton High School in 1944 where he played football. After serving in the U.S. Army during World War II he became a Brockton firefighter. After a long career and earning a degree in Fire Science he retired as a Captain in 1990. He was a member of Christ Congregational Church, U.C.C., and enjoyed the outdoors, playing sports, walking, traveling, fishing, camping, clamming, and socializing. He was a very caring and helpful neighbor. His smile would light up any room and reflected his heart of gold. Most of all, Russell will be remembered for his deep love and undying devotion to his Family.
Russell was the cherished husband of the late Phyllis M. (Duhaine) Gillpatrick for 60 years; He is survived by his five devoted children, Jeffrey A. Gillpatrick (Rosemary Dalton-Gillpatrick) of Lakeville, Ellen L. Anderson (Michael) of Norton and Leucadia, CA, Bradford R. Gillpatrick of Brockton, Gail S. Gillpatrick of Bridgewater, and Sandra G. Flattery (Bernard) of Rochester; he was the fun-filled and loving Papa of Brian M. Gillpatrick (Renee) of Oakdale, PA, Shawn D. Gillpatrick of Dorchester, and Brian Flattery (Susan) of Swansea; Great-Papa of Connor, Collin, Grace and Devin; as well as several nephews, extended family and friends. Russell was the brother of the late Albey F., Kenneth W., and Helen L. Gillpatrick.
All are welcome to walk-through calling hours Sunday, Jan. 24, from 1-4 p.m. in Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St., Brockton and with occupancy limits (livestreamed) his funeral Monday, Jan. 25 at 10 a.m. in Waitt Funeral Home and burial at Melrose Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to a charity of your choice. Covid protocol of face masks, social distancing and occupancy limits required.
