Robert P. Renaud, a distinguished veteran and loyal friend who found joy on the dance floor, peacefully departed this life at his home in West Bridgewater, Massachusetts on January 19, 2024.
Born in Smithfield, Rhode Island, on November 20, 1933, Robert’s path was characterized by enduring friendships, celebrated through his unique and ebullient humor. Mysterious, charming and allergic to romantic commitment, Robert will be remembered by some for driving his Porsche sports car in the early days of the digital age, with an enormous early-model mobile phone in the console, while stories and jokes flowed behind him.
Robert served in the Korean War and held a Master's degree from Providence College. Early in his career, he was a non-profit program administrator, working in the spheres of banking and community development to carry out the mandates of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s Office of Economic Opportunity at Self Help, Inc. He also worked for IBM, taught school and was a mentor to many.
He leaves behind his beloved daughter, Dareth Colburn; granddaughter Jessica Jaeger; goddaughter Jessica Mehler; nephew Robert Schroeder; niece Stacee Schroeder; cousins David Haynes and Donald Haynes; and his longtime companion, Maria Barry.
Robert requested no formal memorial service. His remains were placed at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
His absence is deeply felt by all who knew him, however Robert lives on in the hearts of those who loved him. On his marker, look for the words he often used: "Sleep with your angels."
