Robert J. Burns Jr., 70, of Brockton for the past 39 years, died unexpectedly Dec. 2, 2018. Native of Dorchester, the only son of the late Dorothea and Robert, he graduated from Dorchester High School where he played football and baseball and French horn in the St. Kevin's marching band. Bob served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam as an Airborne Ranger and Green Beret with the 5th Special Forces and was awarded a Bronze Star Medal. Upon his return he resided in Quincy and was a member Teamsters Union delivering the Boston Globe for over 30 years. He also was an EMT for Bay State Ambulance and taught EMS courses. He was a member of Holbrook Sportsmen’s Club, V.F.W., D.A.V., and American Legion, and was a former Boy Scout volunteer. Bob was a WWII and military history enthusiast and enjoyed flea markets, auctions and shows, especially Brimfield, rose gardening, dining out, traveling, walking his dogs and caring for all his pets. Bob was the beloved husband of Virginia M. (Carney) Burns for 48 years; loving father of James Burns of Maine; grandfather of Shianne Burns, James Burns, Sean Pagliuca and Jayden Burns; great-grandfather of Ja’leo, Jalissa and Jeremiah; brother-in-law of Patricia Mankiewicz of Florida, Thomas Carney of Natick and Barbara Norris of Alabama; and he leaves several cousins, nieces and nephews.
