Raymond Winslow “Skipper” Baker Jr., 71, a lifelong proud resident of Brockton, peacefully passed away on July 17, 2023. Skipper was born on April 28, 1952 to the late Raymond Winslow Baker Sr. and Margaret Johnson Baker. He attended Brockton Public schools and while in high school, he was a member of the track team. Skipper graduated from Brockton High in 1970 and after a couple of years attending college, he transitioned into the workforce and worked for many companies over the years. His last position was as a youth counselor for the Brockton YMCA where he enjoyed spending time assisting youth that attended the programs at the facility.
Skipper had a very caring and humble spirit and truly wore his heart on his sleeve. He always had a concern for the well-being of others and had a knack for remembering everyone’s birthday. He also had a fun and loving spirit and an infectious laugh. He enjoyed good music, dancing and having a good time with family and friends.
Skipper was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Joseph, and special Aunt Doris V. Johnson. He is survived by his brothers Richard Baker of Brockton and Mark Baker of Easton; sister Vivian Baker Blake (Dwayne) of Hampton, VA; nieces, Lindsey Cabrera (Frankie) of Virginia Beach, VA, D’Andra Blake of Hampton, VA, and Elaina Blake of Philadelphia, PA; nephews Derek Baker of Brockton and Dwayne C. Blake of Hampton, VA; great nephews Damare Baker and Mason Blake, and great niece Jordan Rose Cabrera. Skipper also leaves a host of cousins and friends who will miss him dearly.
All are welcome to calling hours Thursday, July 27th from 9 -10:45 a.m., followed by his celebration of life at 11 a.m., all at Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St., Brockton. Burial to follow at Melrose Cemetery, 88 N. Pearl St., Brockton.
