Pauline Fencer Obituary

Pauline (Sabina) “Polly” Fencer, 95, a lifelong resident of Brockton, died peacefully on May 14, 2021, after failing health. Polly was a graduate of Brockton High School where she was voted Athlete of the Year in her yearbook. She was a natural athlete who spent her youth playing sports at O’Donnells playground. The All-American Girls Baseball League invited Polly to join them in 1948. She was also a coach for the basketball league of St. Colman Church. She was retired from New England Telephone after many years there and was a member of Telephone Pioneers. She and her husband loved to travel, spending winters in Florida and summers in Wareham, and she enjoyed long daily walks. She was devout Catholic and lifelong communicant of Our Lady of Ostrobrama Church until its closing. Polly joined St. Edith Stein Parish, where she also volunteered at the food pantry. Polly loved to bowl on leagues at Westgate Lanes in her free time and was always a top contender, even at the age of 92!

Pauline loved her family most, and was the beloved wife of the late Richard H. “Dick” Fencer for 52 years; loving mother of Regina and her husband Alfred O'Shea of South Yarmouth, Richard H. Fencer Jr. and his wife Annemarie of Brockton and Susan Fencer-Cote of Sandwich; devoted grandmother of 6: Shane Fencer of Maine, Kelsey O’Shea of Seville, Spain, Daniel Fencer of Taunton, Aidan O’Shea of NJ, Carly Cote of Boston and Adrienne Fencer of NH; sister of Blanche Zak of Hyde Park and the late Charlotte Ruskiewicz, Mary Leganowicz, Joseph, Francis, Michael and Edward Sabina; and an aunt of many nieces and nephews. All are welcome to calling hours Tuesday May 18 from 4-8 p.m. in Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St., Brockton, her funeral Wednesday May 19 at 9:30 a.m. from Waitt Funeral Home, funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Edith Stein Parish and burial at Melrose Cemetery.
