Paul Stephen Ruokis, beloved father, family man, and visionary shoe designer, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2025, at the age of 73. Born on August 12, 1952 in Brockton Massachusetts, the son of the late Joseph F. Ruokis and Cynthia F (Gould) Ruokis. Paul built a life defined by creativity, determination, and a deep appreciation for the natural world. He found great success as a shoe designer, where his talent, eye for detail, and relentless work ethic earned him respect throughout the industry. Designing footwear was more than a career for him—it was an art form, and he took pride in creating products that blended function, comfort, and style.
Outside of his professional achievements, Paul was most alive in the outdoors. He loved being surrounded by nature—whether hiking, hunting, fishing, camping, or simply enjoying fresh air and open spaces. The outdoors was his place of peace, reflection, and joy, and it often inspired both his work and his outlook on life.
Above all else, Paul cherished his family. He was a devoted father whose love, guidance, and quiet strength shaped the lives of those closest to him. He will be remembered for his wisdom, his creativity, his love of nature, and the legacy he leaves behind through both his work and the countless memories shared with family and friends.
Paul is survived by his beloved wife Dorothy (Dottie) Finn with who he shared 50 wonderful years filled with laughter and companionship, Loving father of Paul Jason (P.J.) Ruokis and his wife Vandna, Michael Ruokis, Ashley and her husband Joshua Naginewicz of Tennessee, grandfather of Reena, Ryan, Lola and Liam; nieces and nephews, Kelly, Kathy, Samantha and Peter. Paul’s brothers Peter and his wife Pia, Philip and his wife Lisa and dearest friend Charlie (Debbie) Rogers will also remember him fondly.
Following cremation, a celebration of life will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to any outdoor-related charity, conservation group, or meaningful cause, honoring his lifelong love of the outdoors. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
