It is with a heavy heart that we announce the loss of our beloved mother and grandmother Patricia Joyce of Brockton, MA. Lovingly known as “Nana Pat” to her grandchildren, she passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at St. Joseph Manor in Brockton on November 14, 2024. Patricia was 88 years old. Born and raised in North Cambridge MA, she was the daughter of Thomas and Mary Hogan both immigrants from Roscommon, Ireland. She is the dear sister and sister-in-law of Thomas and Joyce Hogan of Quincy MA. She was predeceased by siblings Joseph Hogan, Mary Dillon, Helen Hogan, Nancy Edwards and Beatrice Desmond and her late former husband, Michael Joyce.
Our mother was the “guiding light” of the family and impressed upon her children and grandchildren the importance of faith in God, being kind to others, and to always find a way to laugh. Indeed, she had a keen sense of humor and loved to make others laugh with her. Patricia was a proud graduate of St. John’s High School of Cambridge MA and kept in close contact with her graduating class over the years at reunions and get-togethers.
She retired after a successful career as a nurse’s aide at the VA Brockton where she was lauded for her care and comfort to veterans. She enjoyed swimming every week and was a member of the pool aerobics group at the YMCA with her long-standing swimming “gang”. She was known as an avid reader and loved spending time with her grandchildren and family.
Left to honor Patricia’s memory are her five children, Michael Joyce and his wife Juliana of Brookline MA, Caroline O’Connor and her husband Paul of Greenville ME, Stephen Joyce and his wife Kathy of Avon MA, Patrick Joyce and his wife Francine of Raynham MA, and Kevin Joyce and his wife Allison of Brockton MA. She also leaves behind her eight loving grandchildren, Sean, Shannon, Ryan, Katie, Miranda, Alison, Hope and Hannah as well as many nieces and nephews.
All are welcome to memorial calling hours Tuesday Nov. 26 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St. Brockton, her funeral Wednesday Nov. 27 from Waitt Funeral Home at 9 a.m. to her Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Michael Church, Avon and committal at Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.
