Matthew F. Bryan

Matthew F. “Obie” Bryan, 90, of Hemet, California passed away on August 9, 2019, at Riverside University Health System Medical Center in Moreno Valley, California. He was born on June 12, 1929 in Quincy MA to the late Matthew and Alice (McDonnell) Bryan. Matthew was married to the love of his life, Lillian G. (Belcher) Bryan for over 69 years before her passing in April 2018. He was a foreman in the construction business for over 55 years. After retirement he and Lillian loved to travel in their 5th Wheel visiting all over the U.S. They especially enjoyed visiting Massachusetts where most of their family lived.

Matthew had a big heart and always was willing help people in need. He was competitive and liked to play cards. His special game was Hand and Foot. His dog Quincy was his companion for a long time. He was known to take him for a ride in the car, windows down and the air conditioning blasting. Matthew did have the opportunity to travel this June to Massachusetts for a 90th birthday party where everyone was able to attend.

Obie was the beloved father of Carol Johnsen (Glen); Kathleen Small; Richard Bryan (Anne), and the late Francis Bryan; loving grandfather of 10; great-grandfather of 24; and an uncle of many nieces and nephews.

All are welcome to gather on Saturday, July 24, 2021 at 10 a.m. at Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St. Brockton for his 11 a.m. memorial service followed by burial at Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
