Mary K. Flanigan, known to those who loved her as Murv, 71, of Avon, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2025 surrounded by family and friends. Born September 24, 1954, Mary was valedictorian of her graduating class at Avon High School and a Phi Beta Kappa-Summa Cum Laude graduate of the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.
Mary worked for the Department of Transitional Assistance in the Executive Office of Health and Human Services for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts where she served as the Director of the Newmarket Square and Dudley Offices. Mary retired in 2014 after over 30 years to continue her service as a pioneer for the Holbrook congregation of the Jehovah’s Witnesses and to care for her mother.
Mary was known statewide as a member of The Copy Kittens and Company entertaining crowds for years before working a side gig as a DJ with her sister Patty for Meow Music Mix. Mary spent the last 5 years being cared for by the amazing nurses and aides at Copley at Stoughton after a stroke in 2020.
Mary had a deep love for life’s simple and joyful pleasures. She enjoyed playing golf and could often be found watching golf and football, cheering with enthusiasm and pride. Chicago held a special place in her heart and was her favorite city to visit, a place she returned to whenever she could.
A true lover of food and creativity, Mary found great happiness in the kitchen, proudly playing the role of “Chef” for those she loved. She admired talented chefs and took joy in visiting their restaurants, savoring both the food and the artistry behind it. Cooking, traveling, and sharing memorable meals were among the many ways Mary expressed her love for others and for life itself.
Mary is survived by her brothers Timothy (wife Elaine) and family of Avon, Michael (wife Debra) and family of Plymouth, Billy (Karen) and family of Ocoee FL, sister Patricia (husband John) of Avon, nine nieces and nephews and fourteen and a half grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Gail (00) father William (04) and mother Mary Lou (21).
