With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Marcel Thomas Samedi, affectionately known as "Papi Marcel," who departed from this life at the age of 92. Born on January 11, 1932, in Pétion-Ville, Haiti, Marcel was the cherished son of Azilia Samedi and Pierre Sarthou. He was admired throughout his life for his elegance, wit, and charm, leaving an indelible mark on those who knew him.
Marcel dedicated much of his life to his passion for mechanics and refrigeration, earning the respect and admiration of his students as a professor and skilled technician. His dedication to his craft and his generosity in sharing his knowledge embodied his commitment to enriching others' lives.
Marcel was married to the late Myriam Remarais Samedi, with whom he shared a loving partnership and a beautiful family. He was a devoted father to Reverend Jean Nixon Rebecca and his beloved wife Magalie, Richard Samedi, Florence Samedi Norman, Harry Samedi (deceased), and Barbara Samedi, as well as a loving stepfather to Marcia St. Urbain. Marcel's legacy lives on through his grandchildren—Ricardo, Julien, Francis, Marcel, Briana, Giovanni, and Justin—and his step-grandchildren Jazmyn, Payj, and Anjolie. He was blessed to be a great-grandfather to Matthew, Amayah, Mailie, Delilah, Madison, Amarah, Legend, and Gabriel.
Marcel's warmth, kindness, and selflessness defined his character. His most endearing quality was the boundless love and affection he held for his family, always placing their happiness above his own. As an uncle to many nephews and nieces, and a beloved member of the Samedi, Sarthou, Fourcand, Drisse, Laplanche, Charles, Edouard, and Emile families, Marcel's legacy of compassion and grace will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
We remember Marcel Thomas Samedi as a kind and gentle soul, who brought light into the lives of all who knew him. His memory will remain forever cherished, a testament to a life well-lived and a love that knew no bounds.
