Louis Gerard Milard

Louis Gerard Milard, 76, of Brockton, died peacefully on Monday, August 17, 2026, at Boston Medical Center, surrounded by his children, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Port-à-Piment, Haiti, he was the fourth of eight children of Ginot Milard and Emma Salomon. He was educated in Port-à-Piment, Les Cayes, and Port-au-Prince. He trained as an accountant and spent fifteen years at the Banque Nationale d'Haïti. He married Chrisline Tinera on March 10, 1979. In 1989, he joined his family in Brockton, where he made his home for the rest of his life. The same year, he began more than three decades working at the Boston University Library, retiring in 2020.

He served as Treasurer of Église Baptiste Évangélique Haïtienne and was involved in almost everything the church did. At home, he was always building, fixing, and ready for a political debate. He loved his children more than he could express and showed it in the way he knew best: by working, providing, and opening doors he had not been given himself.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Chrisline Milard, of Orlando, FL; his daughters, Yves-Marie of Everett and Edwina Milard of Brockton; his sons, Louis Keller Milard of Seattle, WA, Marc Andy Milard of Brockton, and Gregory Milard of Oklahoma City, OK; eleven grandchildren; his sisters, Laurette Milard and Francoise Orcel; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and by five siblings.

Through the years of his illness, he was surrounded by family and by all those in the community who supported him. The family is grateful to each of them, and especially to Église Baptiste Évangélique Haïtienne, who cared for him as one of their own when family could not be near. The family thanks all who will gather to remember him, many from far away.

Visiting hours will be held Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, 1367 Main Street, Brockton, MA 02301, with a funeral service to follow. Burial will be at Forest Hills Cemetery, 95 Forest Hills Avenue, Boston, MA 02130. Live streaming of Louis' funeral will be available.
