Lois Caroline Allen Obituary

Lois Caroline Allen of Westwood died peacefully on March 26, 2022 at the age of 96 after a short illness. She was the loving wife of the late Lester William Allen for over 70 years. She grew up in Avon and was the daughter of late Everett and Lois (Stokes) Olson and the sister of Virginia Walsh, who predeceased her. She was the devoted mother of David Allen of Walpole, Lisa Lytle and her husband James of Jamaica Plain, Charles Allen and his wife Linda of St. Augustine, Florida, and John Allen of Mashpee. She is also survived by her three adoring grandchildren, Kristen Donovan and her husband Matthew, Amie Gemelli and her husband Brian, and Edward Lytle; and by her four great-grandchildren, James Donovan, Patrick Donavan, Caroline Gemelli and Daisy Gemelli; and two nieces.

Caroline, as she was always known, graduated from Avon High School and the New England Baptist Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a nurse in a number of different settings until her children were born when she became a full-time homemaker. At the age of 54, she proudly graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English from Wellesley College. She wrote poetry, which was a lifelong passion.

She lived in North Easton, Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Honolulu, HI, and Cohasset before settling in Westwood in 1984 where she lived for the remainder of her life.

She loved to travel throughout the United States and Canada and made several trips to Europe. She created a warm and inviting home. A private funeral was held.
