Lilija Kulbis, 85, died peacefully on November 20, 2023 of colon cancer. Native of Lithuania and settled in Brockton, she attended Bridgewater State University and received her master’s in teaching. She started her teaching career in Middleborough public schools.
After having her family, she worked until retirement in the Brockton public school system as a reading and English teacher at East Junior High. Lilija was heavily involved in the Brockton and Boston Lithuanian community. She taught Lithuanian school for many years and was active with the Lithuanian scouts for many years. A big part of her summers, Lilija spent at Camp Neringa in Vermont as a counselor and helping out with the program. She also was part of “Sodauto”, a Lithuanian Ethnographic ensemble of Boston singing group. The group performed throughout America, Canada, Lithuania, Germany, and Belgium. Lilija enjoyed photography, art, and reading.
Lilija was predeceased by her husband Antanas Kulbis (2020) and son Antanas P. Kulbis (1994). She was the beloved mother of Tadas Kulbis and his wife Ruta (Sidrys) of Chicago and Regina Kulbis and her husband Peter Marino of Methuen; loving grandmother of Kovas Kulbis and his wife Lynsey, Vidas, Lukas, Vasara, Rytas Kulbis and Mikas, Andrius, Lukas Kulbis-Marino, many nieces and nephews, as well as her sister-in-law Onute Paklanis (Waterbury, CT).
Following cremation, all are welcome to calling hours Friday, Jan. 5th from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, followed by a 12 noon memorial service in Waitt Funeral Home, 850 N. Main St., Brockton, MA, burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery, Brockton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lilija’s Memory can be made to Camp Neringa, Inc., an organization near and dear to Lilija.
