John A. Olivolo, 76, of Brockton, passed away on July 30, 2024 with his family by his side. A native of South Boston, he was the son of the late Jerry A. and Ellen M. (Wallace) Olivolo. John was a graduate of Don Bosco Technical High School in Boston, where he was a star athlete. Because of his academic and athletic abilities, he was awarded many college scholarships. However, shortly after graduation, he was drafted into the Vietnam War, serving bravely in the U.S. Army until his honorable discharge.
During this time he met his wife, Nancy, and they were blessed with two daughters. John went on to enjoy a successful career with the phone company, retiring after 25 years of service. After his retirement, he worked as a courier for Compass Medical for many years. He loved traveling to offices and medical centers, certainly not for the driving/traffic, but for the chance to meet and to talk to the people. John, the reluctant “life of the party”, loved people and cared deeply for others. His kindness and generosity made a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of meeting him. He was clever and full of knowledge gained through all of his life experiences whether an athlete, a soldier ,a technician, a traveler, a husband, a caregiver, a father, an uncle or a papa.
John will always be remembered for his fierce passion to do and advocate for what's right, his never-ending strength and his ability to always find humor even in the darkest of light. Though he would say he did not love crowds, he was always the first to make sure he knew everyone in the room and did his best to make all feel comfortable and welcome through laughter and his genuine caring for others. He also loved sharing everything he had, especially making sure his family was taken care of first and foremost.
When his time came, he carried himself with dignity, strength and passed as he lived his life... on his terms and 'his way'. He will be missed beyond words.
John was the husband of the late Nancy A. (Coppi) Olivolo for 52 years until her passing last year; loving father of Deanna O. Deschamp and her husband Keith of Framingham and Jaclyn A. Begley and her husband Sean of Cumberland, R.I.; and loving papa of Camryn Deschamp, Faith Begley, and Sean “Jr.” Begley.
All are welcome to his celebration of life on Sunday, August 4th from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a 3:30 p.m. prayer service in Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St., Brockton. Private family committal service at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne where he will be at rest next to his wife. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism and/or the American Heart Association.
A Light Is...
A light is from our household gone
A voice we loved is stilled,
A place is vacant in our home
Which never can be filled.
God gave us a beautiful father -
A father who never grew old
You were always there with a helping hand.
Help us now to accept His plan.
We miss you now our hearts are sore
As time goes by, we miss you more
Your loving smile, your gentle face
No one can take our father's place.
May the choirs of the Angels receive
you and may you have rest and
peace everlasting.
