Joan Reynolds Obituary

It is with a broken heart that we share the news of the passing of Joan Mahoney Reynolds on May 8, 2021. She passed peacefully in her own home with her loved ones at her bedside. Joan had been suffering from failing health for a number of years and had survived three strokes beginning in 2013.

Joan Mahoney Reynolds was born in Boston, Massachusetts on November 21, 1932. She was the daughter of Margaret (“Peg”) Scannell Mahoney and Charles Mahoney, Esq. of Boston, MA. She attended Mission High School in Boston and received her B.A. from Emmanuel College in Boston. After her graduation from Emmanuel, she married her childhood sweetheart Lawrence (“Larry”) Reynolds. They settled in Brockton in 1957 and enjoyed a winter home in Boynton Beach, Florida for many years. They were happily married for 48 years until Larry’s death in 2003.

Joan and Larry lived their lives as true partners in all things.  They established their own real estate company, Rhodes Realty, and were real estate brokers on the South Shore for decades.  Together they dedicated their time and efforts to the Brockton community by creating the Spartan Athletic Club which provided athletic opportunities for the youth of Brockton in baseball, basketball and track. Years later these young athletes, now grown men, shared their fond remembrances of Joan and Larry and expressed what an impact that they had on their young lives.

For many years both Larry and Joan were active in the First Marine Division Association and traveled to Marine Corps reunions all over the country. They were also active in local veterans organizations including the American Legion, Post 35, in Brockton.

Joan was a devoted wife to Larry; they were inseparable during their 48 years of marriage. Joan was a loving and dedicated mother to their three children, Marie A. Reynolds, Esq. of Boston, formerly of West Palm Beach, Florida, George J. Reynolds and his wife Jean of Scituate, MA., and Glenn L. Reynolds and his wife Mary of New York City, N.Y.  She was a proud and loving grandmother to her six grandchildren, Greg Reynolds of CT., Jake Reynolds of Worcester, MA., Katie of Seattle, Kelly, Colleen and Ciara Reynolds, of New York City , N.Y.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Marcia Ward of Peabody, MA., brother-in-law Ronald White, the husband of her predeceased sister-in-law Desiree White of Plymouth, MA. , a niece and several nephews and their families.
