It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Henry E. Riley Jr., 79, of Brockton. Henry passed peacefully on May 30, 2025, surrounded by his family, leaving behind a legacy of love and unwavering support. Born and raised in Winthrop, he was the son of the late Henry E. Riley Sr. and Marion A. (Vien) Riley. He was a graduate of Winthrop High School. He attended Wentworth Institute, Newbury Jr. College, and Salem State University. Henry proudly served his country in the United States Army in Vietnam as a crew chief aboard Chinook helicopters.
Henry was known for his kindness, generosity, and gentle spirit. He enjoyed a private, quiet life. Whether boating, fishing, or simply enjoying the coastal views, he found fulfillment on the water. He was a lifelong lover of the sea, especially the island waters around Boston Harbor and Cape Cod. Henry loved history, books, magazines, maps, and reading the Boston Herald and New York Post each day.
Henry was hardworking and dedicated. He spent many years working as General Superintendent for Trevi Icos Construction. He was a member of the Pile Drivers Local 56. Upon his retirement, he was gratified to have collaborated with a custom builder and designed two wooden boats for himself. He delighted in the music of Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead. Henry was an appreciated member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a gourmet cook.
Henry cherished his family. He was the loving husband of Joanne M. (Massa) Riley for 57 years. He was the devoted father of Henry “Teddy” Riley III and his wife Meghan of Whitman, and Lauren Roche and her husband Paul of East Bridgewater; proud and special grandfather “Pookie” of Mary Caroline Riley, Anna Magnolia Riley, and Lacey Donna Roche; and brother of Mary Lou Heighton and her late husband Clark of Winthrop. His family and friends will deeply miss him forever.
