George J. Markunas, 77, of Avon, passed away September 5, 2025. Born in Dorchester and raised in Milton, he was a son of the late William and Anna (Ambrutis) Markunas. He graduated Milton High School in 1967 and earned an associate’s degree from Graham Junior College. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1970-1976. George was a self-employed sales representative for 12 companies in the audiovisual industry for the New England region. He loved to work on cars, radios, TVs and anything he could fix.
George was the beloved husband of Marie E. (McFarland) Markunas for 53 years, loving father of Christopher Markunas of Roslindale, David Markunas and his wife Rebecca of Mansfield, and the late Kathleen “Katie” Markunas Crowell and her husband Michael Crowell of Milton, dear “Pampy” of Josephine and Myles Markunas and Elizabeth and Grace Crowell, brother of the late William Markunas and Anita Peters, and an uncle of Peter Markunas of Georgia and Mark Markunas of San Francisco.
George’s family expresses sincere thanks to Alliance at Marina Bay and Serenity Care Hospice.
All are welcome to calling hours Sunday September 14th from 3 to 5 p.m. and his prayer service at 5 p.m. at Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St. Brockton. Cremation and private committal at Milton Cemetery will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to the Katie Crowell Foundation in honor of George.
