Gary W. Chapman, 85, of Brockton since 1972, passed away suddenly April 24, 2026. Raised in Eastondale, he was a son of the late Lewis and Millicent (MacLeod) Chapman. He graduated from Oliver Ames High School there in 1958 and was a member of its Hall of Fame for playing football. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Gary was a computer programmer for Raytheon then Datatrol prior to his last career as a letter carrier for the postal service for close to 20 years.
Active all his life, he was an avid golfer at Pine Oaks in Easton and D.W. Field Golf Course in Brockton, bowled at Westgate Lanes off season, and participated in 5K events for The McCourt Foundation. Gary was a parishioner at St. Nicholas then St. Edith Stein Churches, volunteered coaching baseball in Brockton for 38 years, and was a fan of Brockton High School football and its other athletic programs. He enjoyed playing slot machines at Plain Ridge and Twin Rivers casinos. Gary loved animals and could be seen on daily walks with his Boxer Brody in the Brookfield section of Brockton.
Gary was the loving husband of the late Connie (Mendoza) Chapman; beloved father of Edward Chapman (& Kelly Cormier) of Dorchester and Colleen Chapman (& Thomas Deagle) of Brockton; grandfather of Justin Deagle and Dean Chapman; brother of Judith Fulcher (& Bill) and Greg Chapman (& the late Deborah) all of Easton and the late Lewis Chapman (& the late Evelyn); and an uncle of many nieces and nephews.
All are welcome to memorial calling hours Wednesday May 6th from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St. Brockton followed by his memorial Mass at 12 noon at St. Edith Stein Church, 71 East Main St. Brockton.
