Gary J. Matta, 80, of East Bridgewater, passed away on October 28, 2025. Born in Brockton, Gary was the son of the late James and Victoria Matta. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era. He was a graduate of Emerson College, earning a bachelor’s degree in journalism. Gary was a court reporter and news editor for The Patriot Ledger for many years until his retirement and was past president of the Newspaper Guild. His hobbies included raising and racing greyhounds, traveling, and trips to the casino; Gary enjoyed cooking for and hosting family gatherings. He was our family HERO.
Gary was the beloved father of Nicole Boze of East Bridgewater and Gary J. Matta II and his wife Shannon of Brockton; loving Jido “Jid” of Jacquelyn Garrity, Gary “T.J.” Matta III, and Ava Matta; dear brother of Kevin Matta, Victoria Bond, James Matta, and the late Connie Cooney, Beverly Matta, and Charles Matta; close brother-in-law of Michael Messina and the late Mary; and an uncle of many nieces and nephews.
