Gail Catherine (Mercurio) Duarte, 66, of Brockton, MA, formerly a lifelong resident of Hull, MA, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2024 in the comfort of her own bed. Born in Weymouth on June 26, 1957 at South Shore Hospital to the late Marilyn Ruth (Thibideau) Mercurio and Theodore James Mercurio, she was one of three children. Gail was raised in Hull Village and Nantasket Beach was her playground. A graduate of Hull High School and a well-known Hull Kid,
Gail loved to dance and listen to music. She would later find her "Travolta" on the dance floor at the local nightclub called "The Surf." After just a six month romance, Gail became engaged to Frank Duarte and started her first career as a catalog operator for Talbot’s clothing. Gail’s first born child came along six years later she gave birth to Amanda Lynn in the fall of 1983 and then later joined by little sister Lisa Cathleen three years after in the summer of 1986. Family was everything to Gail and her children meant the world to her. While raising her two daughters, she became involved with the Hull School systems as a dedicated paraprofessional for grades kindergarten through second. Education was important to Gail and so she became very active in the community. She became P.T.O. president, worked for the school superintendent’s office and could be found at her daughters’ after school activities. Gail dedicated her time to Hull Theater Arts and the H.Y.F.A Sports Organization. She watched a shy Amanda grow up on the stage while helping cut and sew costumes, raising money for trips and sending messages to the stars. She also could be found at cheerleading competitions, on the football field cheering and raising money at the snack shack. After her oldest graduated High School, Gail had a career change. For the past 20 years she became an outstanding employee at South Shore Health, formerly known as South Shore Medical Center. Gail was dedicated to her work but also enjoyed traveling with her family to the White Mountains of New Hampshire. She was an avid football fan and shared the love of the game with her two grandchildren and her son- in-law. A lover of nature and animals, Gail had a knack for crafts, and spending time with her family was what she loved most.
Gail leaves behind her husband Frank F. Duarte of 47 years of marriage, her two beautiful daughters, Amanda L. Dos Santos and Lisa C. Tupper, two sons-in-law, Carlos Dos Santos and Brandon Tupper and she was the devoted "Nana" of Nolan Tupper and Brynlee Tupper. Respectfully per Gail’s wishes, her family will honor her cremation and private committal. If you would like to send condolences please share at www.waittfuneralhome.com.
