On Thursday, July 19, 2018, God sent his angels to claim his child, Frederick Peter Gaskins Sr. He was born October 22, 1941 in Roxbury, Massachusetts to the late Peter Simon Gaskins and Louise Saunders Gaskins. Fred attended the Aaron Davis Elementary School, Dearborn Middle School and Boston Trade High School where he graduated in 1960. He played with the Boston Symphony Orchestra in the “School Boy Parade” and the Saint Cyprian’s Marching Band under the leadership of Percy Adams. In adolescent years, he attended the Robert Gould Shaw House where he played basketball and spent his summers at overnight camps (Breezy Meadows and Camp Wing). After graduating high school, he attended Franklin Institute. In 1963 Fred enlisted in the U.S. Army and became an SP5 Sergeant and served overseas in Vietnam and Thailand for 3 years. After being honorably discharged, he attended Wentworth Institute of Technology where he obtained his Electrical Engineering Degree. He was employed at LICO (Philips) as an Electrical Engineer for thirty years. After retiring in 2009, he started his own TEM microscope service company (FG Services), working for major corporations, universities and hospitals, most recently at Stonehill College. He was also a licensed Massachusetts Real Estate Broker, having attended Lee Institute at Massasoit Community College. Fred was a Mason, Carver Lodge and a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. Fred enjoyed life. He traveled extensively in and out of the country with his family. He especially loved taking cruises meeting different people and visiting casinos. Left to celebrate his life and cherish his memory are his beloved wife of fifty two years, Rosa L. (Smith) Gaskins; two sons, F. Peter Gaskins, Jr. of North Las Vegas, NV and Robert P. Gaskins of Brockton; a brother Richard Gaskins of Newark, DE; a sister Betty Gaskins of Milton; (was preceded in death by a brother Robert Gaskins;) ten grandchildren; one great granddaughter; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
