Elizabeth J. "Betty" Guarino Obituary

Elizabeth J. Guarino, 88, beloved wife of Charles “Chuck” Guarino for 68 years, of Brockton, passed away surrounded by her family on November 11, 2024.  Born and raised in Boston, she moved to Brockton where she raised her family.

Betty was the loving mother of Deborah and Steve Pierce of Brockton, Frank and Norma Guarino Raynham, Gina and John DiBari of Middleborough, Angie and Tom Smalley of East Bridgewater, Lynne and Wayne Selden of Bridgewater, Nikki and Russell Carlozzi of East Bridgewater and predeceased by the late Robert Guarino.

Betty, affectionately called “The Bedster,” was born on Valentine’s Day, and it just made sense. She had this way of making people feel seen and loved, there was always enough room in her heart for everyone. She was just one of those people you couldn't help but love. She retired after many years as the cafeteria manager at Ashfield School. She loved playing cards with family on Saturday evenings, often staying up until the wee hours of the morning. Betty looked forward to her monthly trips to Foxwoods and Bingo outings with her best friend, Tootsie. She loved going out for birthday dinners with “her girls”. She was always ready to challenge anyone who visited her to a game of Skip-Bo. The Bedster had a special place in her heart for her “guys”—her sons-in-law—and never missed a chance to joke, saying, “that poor guy” for having to put up with her daughters.

She is survived by her grandchildren, who lovingly called her Nana: Tracie, Steven, Jamie, Jonathan, Jen, Joe, Dan, Kim, Kait, Taylor, Robert, Gianna, and Alexa. She was also the proud great-grandmother of Isaiah, Bianca, Jorge, David, Miranda, Jacob, Alex, Gavin, Logan, Cole, Julian, Dominic, Anthony, Cayde, Griffin, Caleb, Jackson, Juliette, and Hope. Betty was the sister-in-law of Jeanne Katz and her husband Gerald of Natick and leaves behind many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Mildred Grover, Marilyn Damigella, and her brother Ricky Hughes, as well as her brother-in-law, Carmen Guarino, and his wife, Janice.

Following cremation, all are welcome to her memorial calling hours Monday Nov. 18th  from 3 to 5 p.m. with 5 p.m. prayer service, all at Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St. Brockton. Private committal later. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
