Elizabeth (Smith) Peterson, also known as “Betty”, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on May 25, 2026 at the age of 101. A longtime resident of Brockton for 35 years, she more recently resided in Bridgewater for the past 27 years. A native of Liverpool, England, she proudly served in the British Land Army during World War II. She married Anthony G. Peterson and they started their family in Liverpool and came to Brockton in 1964.
Elizabeth was employed by the W.C. Bearce Insurance Agency in Brockton as a Claims Clerk until her retirement. She loved dogs and enjoyed photography, gardening, traveling, playing piano, computers and spending time with her family.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her mother Elizabeth E. Smith, her father Walter H. Smith, her husband Anthony G. Peterson, their infant son David Anthony Peterson, and her grandson Timothy M. Peterson.
Being an only child, Betty felt blessed in having a large family. She was the beloved mother of Sheila Smith (David) of Raynham, David Peterson (Teri) of Lakeville, Michael Peterson (Maryanne) of North Easton, Helen Regan (David) of Brockton, Ruth Barrett (Michael) of Bridgewater, Timothy Peterson (Glenda) of Mashpee, loving grandmother of 17 and a dear great-grandmother of 29 all of whom she loved dearly.
All are welcome to memorial calling hours Wednesday June 3rd from 8 to 10 a.m. at Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St. Brockton, her funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 439 West St. Brockton and burial at Melrose Cemetery in Brockton. Live streaming of Betty's funeral Mass will be available.
