Eileen M. (Slattery) Melody, 82, of Avon for over 50 years and recently of Chelmsford, passed away on July 2, 2025 peacefully with her family by her side after a brief illness. Daughter of the late Charles and Helen (Haley) Slattery, she was raised in Dorchester with her older sister the late Claire Slattery.
After meeting her husband James E. Melody Jr. and marrying in 1964 they resided in Wollaston for 2 years until buying their home in Avon in 1966. Eileen was devoted to her family and worked part-time for Hit or Miss and Chadwick’s before retiring at age 58. She and Jim enjoyed many trips to New Hampshire, Cape Cod, and Maine; they also had a timeshare in Newport, RI and bought a home in St. Petersburg, FL. They also loved to play cards, bingo and visit casinos. Eileen resided at Chelmsford Crossings since 2023.
Eileen was the wife of the late James E. Melody Jr. who passed in 2018 after their marriage lasting 54 years; she was the beloved mother of Arlene Melody Sorel & her husband Roland of Westford, Robert J. Melody & his wife Greta of N. Attleboro, & Charlene Melody Nielsen & her husband Sean of Medford, N.Y.: loving grandmother of Kendra Lindsey (and her husband Stephen), Gabrielle Smith (and her husband Alexander), Tracy Ferro (and her husband Joseph) and Kyle Nielsen (and his wife Veronica); great-grandmother of Aria Lindsey and one more coming soon; sister-in-law of Thomas Melody of Rockland.
All are welcome to calling hours Thursday July 10th 4-7 p.m. in Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St. Brockton, her funeral Friday July 11th at 10 a.m. from Waitt Funeral Home, funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Michael Church, Avon & burial at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester.
