Dorothy M. (Geary) Reid

Dorothy M. (Geary) Reid, 82, of Brockton, passed away on April 24, 2024. A native of Avon, she was the daughter of the late William A. and Margaret M. (Macauley) Geary. In her earlier years, she was a talented majorette, participating in several parades and later taught classes on baton twirling. Dottie was a graduate of Henry O. Peabody School in Norwood, earning a certificate in fashion design. After graduation, she worked for Gladys Bridal Shop in downtown Brockton, where she had a keen fashion sense. She later worked for Shaw’s on the east side of Brockton for over 20 years.

Dorothy was an active communicant of the former St. Nicholas Parish in Brockton for many years. She was devoted to caring for her two boys and loved attending all their activities as youths. Dottie was a social butterfly and made friends effortlessly. She enjoyed ceramics and yard sales, “yard sailing” afforded her the opportunity to meet new people and treasure hunt. She was a shining star and will be missed by all who knew her.

Dottie was the beloved wife of John E. Reid for 62 wonderful years; cherished mother of Stephen J. Reid of Suva, Fiji and Robert E. Reid and his wife Annette of Arlington; loving grandmother of Brett and Rebecca Reid of Arlington; dear sister of Robert Geary, James Geary, and the late William Geary and Carol Ann Melanson; and an aunt of many nieces and nephews. Dottie adored her West Highland White Terrier “MacTavish” and would often refer to him as the “boss of the house”.

Family and friends are welcome to her memorial gathering on Thurs., May 2nd from 10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. with a 12 p.m. memorial service at Waitt Funeral Home, 850 N. Main St., Brockton. Interment to follow at St. Michael Cemetery, E. Spring St., Avon. Reception following services. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund.
