David E. “Deuce” Long, age 81, died unexpectedly December 9, 2023 at his home in Mashpee. He was the son of the late Frank A. Long Jr. and Florence B. (Lynch) Long of Brockton and Avon. David was a graduate of Avon High School and served in the Army National Guard from 1964 to 1970. He worked for 50 years as an auto mechanic at Al and Vic’s service station in the Montello section of Brockton, retiring several years ago. Over the years, he made innumerable people happy as he used his well-honed skills to repair their “ailing” vehicles.
David was a long-time member of the New England Historic Genealogy Society and an enthusiastic genealogy researcher. He provided in-depth knowledge to family members about our ancestors. David spent many days visiting nearby cemeteries in search of his ancestors’ headstones. He particularly enjoyed the research trips to Ireland and Illinois, looking for documents to support his research.
David was loved by his family, friends and his Jeep Place neighbors at Popponesset Beach. He is survived by his brother Frank “Andy” Long and his wife Marlene, of Naples FL, his sister-in-law, Janet (Norcross) Long of Bridgewater, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard D. Long. At his request, a private family committal will be held at a later date. Donations in his memory to the Popponesset Water Stewardship Alliance, 114 Van Buren Drive, Abington MA 02351. Visit https://poppywater.org/
