Cris W. Kopke

Cris W. Kopke, 81, of Avon, MA passed away on Father’s Day, June 16, 2024. Born in Newton, MA to the late Walter F. and Blanche K. (Welin) Kopke, he attended Duxbury High School and then went on to serve in the U.S. Army. He served overseas in Germany for three years and then served three additional years in the Reserves. 

Cris was self-employed as a heavy equipment mechanic and welder. He was an active member of many establishments, including the Elks and VFW, where he enjoyed spending time with friends. Cris also enjoyed hunting, camping and had a love of Golden Retrievers.

Cris is survived by his wife of 55 years Virginia Jean Kopke; three children: Kristin Kopke of Brockton, MA, Kellie Adams (Derek) of Avon ,MA  and Kate Kopke of AuSable Forks, NY; three brothers: the late Brian Kopke (Margie) of Canada, Kent Kopke (Colette) of Colorado; Joel Kopke (Drew) of Plymouth, MA; one sister Sara Harvey (John) of Duxbury, MA. Cris was the proud Grampy (aka “Grumpy”) of five grandchildren; Noah Adams of Nashville, TN, Cassidy Nadeau of Brockton, MA, Isaac Higgins of Anderson, SC, Ava Adams of Avon, MA and James Adams of Avon, MA; and many nieces and nephews.

Cris will be waked at Waitt Funeral Home, 850 N. Main St., Brockton on Tues., June 25 from 4-7 p.m. His funeral service will be held at Avon Baptist Church, 119 N. Main St., Avon on Wed., June 26 at 11:00 a.m. Live streaming of Cris' funeral will be available. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) programs or the MSPCA.
