Catalina Cossy Gregoire, who was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday March 30, 2025. She was born on April 30, 1933, in Haiti, the seventh of nine children, and the last to leave this earth, closing an entire chapter for her family.
At the age of 22, she married Elvecius Cossy, and mothered countless children, throughout her life, not only her own but also the children of relatives and neighbors, with a heart full of love and compassion for all. She was known far and wide as "Mamie Coss," a name that echoed through her community with warmth, respect, and affection.
In 1996, she left Haiti and moved to New Jersey before eventually retiring in Boston, where she developed a strong connection with her church family. She found joy in the Lord and was always ready to counsel young and old alike in the word of God. She gave her life to Christ at the age of 13, and with unwavering confidence, she walked with the Lord, praising Him daily. Her steadfast belief in "one God in three persons" was a core part of her life, and she never hesitated to share her testimony of the Savior who died for her on the cross. Her love for the Lord was deep and genuine, and she cherished every opportunity to worship and serve, particularly through her involvement with the church food pantry.
Catalina Cossy Gregoire was loved by all who knew her. She had a remarkable ability to touch the hearts of everyone, from the youngest child to the most seasoned elder. Her joy and warmth made her a beloved figure in her neighborhood, where she was known as "Mamie Cos." She cared deeply for the lives of her siblings and their families, and they, along with her many nieces, nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-great nieces and great-great nephews were all considered her children.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, and son, Edwing. She is survived by three of her four children: Wydine, Immaculee, and Emilie; five grandchildren: Lens, Levens, Widline, Widney, and “Junior” Widim; and a host of extended family members.
In addition to her family, she leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and faith that will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her. Known by many names — Mamie Coss, Tati KeKe, Keke, Auntie, Mamie Catalina, MaTaunte, MaTaunte Keke, Tati (from Haiti to East Wareham) — she carried them all with grace and dignity. But above all, she carried the name she treasured most, "Child of God."
