Carl Buckner Obituary

Carl Richard Buckner, born Feb.3, 1934, passed on from this world peacefully on October 23, 2018.  Originally hailing from the town of Herrin, IL, son of the late Alice and Ray, he left home and enlisted with the US Navy in 1951 and went into the Silent Service, spending over 20 years in the US Navy aboard the USS Entemedor (SS340) and the USS Blenny (SS324) as an Electrician Mate 1st Class.  After service had ended, he then spent almost 20 years with the VA system, including at West Roxbury VA.  During this time, he met the woman who would become the love and partner for the rest of his life, Claire Theresa Campbell. After settling together in Avon in 1975, the two began years and years of fun and adventure, seeing the world for everything it had to offer.  From vacations in South Carolina, to camper trips to the coast, to a mountain cabin in Maine, they did it all together and in love. Joining in these times were Claire's daughter, Catherine Laura, their grandson Joseph Campbell, Claire's Brothers Robert and Edward, and many more friends, family, and anyone else who had the pleasure of meeting these two. Carl was a lover of the outdoors, of animals, and of his garden.  He knew that we didn't have much time on this world in the grand scheme of things, and that in light of this, we should love our friends and families and serve them in any way we can. He was the brother of Barbara Phillips, Jessie Helsley, Lewis Earl Buckner and the late Joe Howard; and also leaves nieces and nephews. The family will have a private service but requests that as a tribute to his life and service, anyone willing to remember him make a donation in his honor to the Wounded Warrior Project at woundedwarriorproject.org
