Barbara A. Downing, 80, of South Meadow Village in Carver and formerly of Brockton for 60 years, passed away November 7, 2024 at her daughter's home under hospice care with family by her side. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late James and Filomena (Zaffino) Lattanzi and was raised in the North End and Somerville. Barbara came to Brockton at age 14 where she was married to Raymond E. Downing on April 29, 1962. She was devoted to her family and home and resided on Locust Street on the North Side of Brockton for many years until moving to Carver in 2013. Barbara enjoyed bingo, going to clubs and dancing, playing cards, and trips to Foxwoods and Lincoln RI casinos. She was the wife of the late Raymond; beloved mother of Tracey A. Hills and her husband Mark of Middleboro and Richard E. Downing and Sheryl Downing of Berkley; loving grandmother of Matt Hills and Judy Jameson, Stephanie Mason and her husband John, Lindsey Hills and Nick Kelly, Sara Downing, and Ryan Downing; great-grandmother of 7; sister of Diane Mulvey of Mashpee, Vicky Kennett of NH and the late Anthony Lattanzi; an aunt of several nieces and nephews; and the dearest friend of Barbara Lynch. Following cremation, a private funeral with family and close friends will be held on Thursday November 14 with calling hours from 9 to 11 a.m. and her memorial service at 11 a.m. all at Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St. Brockton and burial at St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery in Bridgewater. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Cranberry Hospice.
