Antonio G. "Cunuta" Fontes

Antonio G. “Cunuta” Fontes, 86, of Brockton, passed away in his home on Sunday, March 20, 2022. Born in Fogo, Cabo Verde, he was a son of the late Manuel “NeNe” and Linda (Daluz) Fontes. Antonio was skilled with his hands, from shoemaking, home renovations to carpentry, he was a true craftsman.

Cunuta could often be found storytelling, watching CNN, discussing politics, playing Bisca, or spending time with his grandchildren. He valued education and played a significant role in not only his children’s lives but also grandchildren’s. Antonio was welcoming to all and enjoyed socializing, listening to music, and eating traditional Cape Verdean cuisine. His favorite movie quote was “When I'm wrong, I say I'm wrong”. He was a genuine man and will be deeply missed.

Cunuta was the beloved husband of the late Eurides (Veiga) Fontes, whom he lovingly called “Nocas”; loving father of Mirandolina, Clara Gracinda, Elizabeth and her husband Luis Andrade, Susan, and the late Luis Manuel Fontes; dear grandfather of Ariel, Elyssa, Emily, Lue, Alydia, Morgan, Eric, Brooke and Anaya; cherished great-grandfather of Lola; brother of Maria D. “Biu” Fontes, Maria P. “MaMa” Fontes, Rita “Pepinha” Lopes, and the late Manuel G. “Totinho” Fontes; and a nephew of Aguinaldo “GuiGui” Daluz. Known as “Tio Antonio” to many, he leaves several nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, and friends to mourn his passing.

All are welcome to calling hours Sunday, March 27th from 4-8 p.m. in Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St., Brockton, his funeral from Waitt Funeral Home on Monday, March 28th at 9 a.m., funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Edith Stein Church, 71 East Main St., Brockton, and burial at Melrose Cemetery, 88 North Pearl St., Brockton.
