Vernon E. Straffin, 85, a lifelong resident of Brockton, passed away September 27, 2017. A direct decedent of the Mayflower, he attended Brockton schools and was a member of the U.S. Naval Reserve for 8 years. Vern worked for Procter and Gamble for many years until his retirement. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed time spent with his family. Vernon was the husband of the late Margaret (Mansfield) Straffin; father of Mark Straffin and his wife Candace of Saco, Maine and Wayne Straffin of Brockton; grandfather of Amy, Nicole, Evan, Kaylyn, and Andrew; great-grandfather of 8; brother of Pauline Straffin of Plymouth and Norman Straffin and his wife Marge of Clinton, Maine; and an uncle of many. A private family funeral was held. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.
