Paul D. “Red” Sullivan, 83, of Brockton for over 50 years, passed away October 17, 2017. A native of Roxbury and Dorchester, he played Boston Park league baseball for many years, and he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was retired from the Brockton D.P.W. after over 30 years and also had been a Plymouth County Deputy Sheriff for 18 years. Paul was a 32nd degree Mason with Baelis Sanford Lodge and member Shedad Grotto, Shriners Aleppo, and Order of Eastern Star Scottish Rite. A lifelong Democrat, his political involvement highlights include: current and life member Massachusetts State Committeeman 2nd Plymouth and Bristol, current License Commissioner, City of Brockton, 1996 Alternate Elector to The Electoral College of Massachusetts, 1996 Clinton Alternate to The Democratic National Convention in Chicago, past member of the By-Laws, Rules and Regulations of the Massachusetts State Committee, invitee to the 52nd Presidential Inaugural -1993 William Jefferson Clinton, past Coordinator of the City of Brockton for Senator Ted Kennedy, past Planning Board Member, City of Brockton, past Chairman Ward 5 City Committee, past Chairman of the Brockton Democratic City Committee, past Executive Board member, Plymouth County Democratic League, past Trustee for the Brockton War Memorial, past City of Brockton Park Commissioner, 1995 – Named Brockton “Mr. Democrat”, awarded nameplate at Brockton City Council Chambers, member of the Ireland’s Own of Brockton Color Guard, Boston Park League member; Paul has worked on numerous National, State and Local campaigns; Steve Grossman always remembers Paul having the first sign in the city for his state-wide campaign for Treasurer; Joseph Kennedy always remembers Paul for the amount of signatures he acquired for his congressional campaign. Paul was the son of the late Margaret and Thomas Sullivan; husband of the late Jean L. (Robinson) Sullivan; beloved father of Paula Bonazzoli and her husband Vinnie of Swampscott (and their 2 children, Danielle and Matthew), Nancy Jones of Brockton (and her four children, Mark (his daughters Sammy and Ella), John (his sons Aiden, Brennan and Connor), Stacy (her daughter Isabella) and Leslie, Robert Anderson of Brockton, and the late Beverly Piscatelli (and her two daughters Tara (her son Tucker) and Daiva (her daughter McKenna and her son Braylon); brother of the late Thomas J. Sullivan Jr. and Edward J. Sullivan; and an uncle of many. All are welcome to calling hours Monday 4-8 p.m. in Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St., Brockton, his funeral from Waitt Funeral Home Tuesday at 9:30 a.m., funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Christ the King Parish and burial at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Old Colony Hospice or St. Jude Children’s Reseach Hospital.
