Melvin W. “Bud” Wass, 87, of Avon, died peacefully at home under hospice and Celtic Angels care with family by his side on Feb. 9, 2019. Bud graduated from Avon High School and was a lifelong member of Avon Baptist Church. After managing the Dennis Drive-In, he built and managed the Avon Drive-In for many years and was an Avon special police officer. He worked as a certified asbestos monitor, often traveling and especially loved his stays in New York City. Bud completed his career as superintendent of Avon Cemetery. He was a member of Freemasons with Norfolk Union Lodge for over 60 years and Shriners as well. He enjoyed talk radio and Sudoku and shellfished in younger years. As an 11th generation member of the Wass family in New England, Bud was the husband of the late Helen (Jacobsen) Wass; beloved father of Gary Wass of Avon, Jeff Wass and his wife Deborah Silliman-Wass of Chilmark and the late Linda Wass and her late husband Bill Soknich; loving grandfather of Sam Soknich and his wife Mary-Margaret of Texas; brother of the late Leroy Clayton Wass, Robert, Floyd and Ronald Wass; and a dear uncle of many nieces and nephews including Roger Wass and his wife Chris and Dick Wass and his wife Lorraine; and Bud leaves many loved ones like family to him including Ruth Given and her son Bill, and Sandra Dorsainvil and her son Alexandre. All are welcome to calling hours Wednesday Feb. 20th 9-11 a.m. and 11 a.m. service in Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St. Brockton then burial at Avon Cemetery.
