Joseph T. Simmons, 96, of Brockton, passed away peacefully Sept. 14, 2018. Son of the late Adam and Alexandra Szymkiewicz, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a devoted family man and an avid fisherman and was retired from work as a diemaker at George E. Knight. Joseph was the husband of the late Mildred (Gerulsky) Simmons for 72 years; beloved father of Linda Kennedy and Beverly Simmons, both of Brockton; and a dear grandfather and great-grandfather of Andrew “AJ” Kennedy (and Ana Lozano) and Ana Sophia and Ian of Arizona, David (and Chrissy) Kennedy and Will, Evelyn and Brynn of Raynham, and Ben (and Mary Kate) Kennedy and Jane and Hannah of Braintree; brother of the late Steve and Edward Szymkiewicz and Louise Callanan; and an uncle of several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are welcome to calling hours Tuesday 4-7 p.m. in Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St., Brockton, his funeral service Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Waitt Funeral Home and burial at Melrose Cemetery.
