James R. “Jimmy” Nye, 79, a lifelong resident of Brockton, passed away at Brockton V.A. Medical Center after a lengthy illness on July 3, 2017. Born on Feb. 22, 1938, he was a son of the late Everett and Catherine (Donovan) Nye and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1955-1959 as a heavy equipment operator. A longtime member of Union Local 624, he was a carpenter by trade and worked on many major projects including Pilgrim Nuclear Plant. He was a member of the Polish White Eagles, Avon VFW Post 8892 and the Mallard Club. Jim was the beloved father of Gary Nye (and Katherine) of Stoughton, Holly Gonsalves (and Stanley) of Brockton, April Sferrazza (and Mark) of Easton, Wayne Nye of Brockton, Crystal Nye (and Richard Houlker) of Brockton; grandfather of Jay Alves, Jennifer Nye, Conner Nye and Erin Sferrazza; great-grandfather of Ian, Jalexi and Jaedyn Alves; beloved brother of Patricia McGrath (and Duane) of Raynham, Linda Realini (and Anthony) of Bridgewater, Donald Nye of Brockton and the late Lawrence, John and Robert Nye; former husband of Joan Dube; devoted owner of his cat Lily and a loving uncle of many nieces and nephews. All are welcome to calling hours Thursday 4-8 p.m. in Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St., Brockton, his funeral service Friday at 10:30 a.m. in Waitt Funeral Chapel and committal at VA National Cemetery at 12:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Old Colony Hospice, 321 Manley St. West Bridgewater MA 02379.
