Isabelle C. (Gillis) Damaris

Isabelle C. (Gillis) Damaris, 90, of Brockton, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2018 at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton.  Born in East Boston, daughter of the late John and Anastasia (MacKinnon) Gillis, Isabelle spent most of her childhood in Randolph, graduating from Stetson High School in 1945, later receiving a secretarial certificate from Bryant and Stratton. She was employed as a teacher's aide in Brockton Public Schools and later retired from Catholic Charities in 2003. Her family and friends were the focal point of her life. She took pleasure in hosting family gatherings. Blessed with a tenacious spirit, she was a caring and nurturing soul. Her kindness had a lasting effect. Dedicated to her faith, she was a communicant of St. Edith Stein Parish, until illness prevented her from doing so. Many will remember her lengthy daily walks, affable wit, and fun-loving nature. Isabelle was the beloved mother of David Damaris of Brockton, Maureen Petropoulos and her husband Alkie of Stoughton, Patricia Roberge of Onset and her husband William, Joseph Damaris Jr. and his wife Pam of Dedham, Robert Damaris and his wife Ann of Marshfield and the late Barbara Damaris; former wife of the late Joseph Damaris; devoted grandmother of  twelve and great-grandmother of four; dear sister of Mary Hart of Randolph, Jane (Walsh) Soule of Mashpee, and the late John and Donald Gillis; and an aunt of several nieces and nephews. All are welcome to calling hours Sunday 4-7 p.m. in Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St. Brockton, her funeral Monday at 8 a.m. from Waitt Funeral Home, funeral Mass at 9 a.m. in St. Edith Stein Parish and burial at Melrose Cemetery.
