BROCKTON – C. William (Bill) Hilliard, 86, passed away December 1, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 7, 1931 in Boston to the late William and Frances [Lewis] Hilliard and spent his childhood in Weymouth. Bill was a sonarman in the US Navy during the Korean War, a 3rd grade teacher in the Holbrook school system for more than 30 years, and a Methodist by faith. He enjoyed anything athletic, especially tennis, as well as good food, great friends, any episode of NCIS, and spending time with family, particularly his grandchildren. Bill leaves behind his wife of 51 years, Barbara [Belcher] Hilliard, whom he adored without question and without limit. He is also survived by his sons D. Bryan (Stacey) Hilliard of Medford and Barry (Kristin) Hilliard of Easton; two sisters Priscilla (Arne) Heitmann of Swampscott and Joan (Glenn) Haskell of Abington; his five beloved grandchildren Duncan, Ryan, Owen, Evan, and Sarah; and many nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his sisters Cynthia (John) Bailey and Helen (Russell) Savory, and his brother and best friend Dudley (Violet) Hilliard. All are welcome to calling hours 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 6th at Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main Street, Brockton His life will be celebrated at Waitt Funeral Home on Thursday, December 7th at 11 a.m. with a committal at National Cemetery in Bourne 1:15 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to The Cousteau Society or the National Audubon Society.
