Bernice B. (Raymond) Shanks

Bernice B. (Raymond) Shanks, 78, of Brockton, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2018. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late William and Bernice B. (Jenkins) Raymond. Bernice worked at Aetna Insurance Co. for 27 years until her retirement. After retiring, she worked as a cafeteria aide at the Angelo School for 10 years. Gifted with many talents, she enjoyed crocheting, ceramics, gardening, cooking, baking, crosswords, puzzles, and playing bingo. The most important thing of all was her family, she especially loved sleepovers with her grandchildren. Her warm heart and smile will be forever missed. Bernice is reunited with her late husband John R. Shanks Jr., whom passed in April; she was the beloved mother of Raymond Shanks Sr. and his wife Francine of Palmdale, CA, Scott Shanks and his wife Patti of Raynham, Donna Andrade and her husband Lourenco of Brockton, Diane Shanks-Correia and her husband Antonino of Brockton, Darren Shanks and his wife Lisa of Brockton, and the late John R. “Butch” Shanks III, and Cazandra Coleman and her husband Daaron Boyd of Randolph, a niece that was more like a daughter to her; loving grandmother of 8; great-grandmother of 2; dear sister of Ethel Wallace of Gainesville, FL, Michael Jackson of Newport News, VA, and the late William Raymond; and an aunt of many nieces and nephews. Bernice also leaves a host of additional family and friends. All are welcome to calling hours Monday, Aug. 27th from 4-8 p.m. in Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St., Brockton, funeral Mass Tuesday, Aug. 28th at 10 a.m. in Christ the King Parish and burial at Melrose Cemetery.
